>>August 8 ~ Skip Heintzelman recommended that the Class support South Tryon Community Church’s ministry by, with and for older adults by providing $400.00 in order to enable two members of that church to attend the SEJAOA Conference on Older Adult Ministries at Lake Junaluska.  The Class voted approval.

>>August 8 ~ BBQ Sign-up gathered 21 names.  The SIGN-UP DEADLINE will be Sept. 19th.

>>August 8 ~ Bill Webb wrote to clarify a statement he made in Sunday School.  It reads as follows:

“I said that Stephen Hawking wrote the book, “The Mind of God”.  In his book, “A Brief History of Time”, the last sentence is “If we find the answer to that (why it is that we and the universe exist), it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason – for then we would know the mind of God.”  Paul Davies wrote the book, “the Mind of God”, which we taught in our class.  As a frontispiece for his book, Davies quotes the last paragraph in Hawking’s book, including the above line.  Davies used Hawking’s phrase, “the mind of God”, as the title of his book.  I hope you will include this correction in “Musings”.  Both of these men perceive the probability of a creator and those in their scientific way believe in God.”

>>August 9-12 ~ The SEJAOA Conference on Older Adult Ministries had a record attendance of 415 from the 15 annual conferences of the Southeastern Jurisdiction this past week.  From our class Bill & Marie Pearce attended.  Bill was elected for a second term as P resident of the Southeastern Jurisdictional Association of Older Adults; term to expire in August 2006.  Mark your calendar with the 2005 dates: August 8-11, 2005.  ”Restoring the Joy!” will be the theme and Don Hammer will be offering a workshop entitled “FOR MEN ONLY”.
