Meeting Notes August 20, 2001

The results of the June/July member survey were distributed and reviewed.
Additional comments from survey participants and paid staff were reviewed as
well (copies distributed to team members, David Dulin, Ron Robinson, Bill
Roth, and Joe Hamby)

One of the chief objectives of the survey was to evaluate the need and
support for an additional service of worship for those who cannot or do not
attend one of the existing Sunday services.  No clear consensus arose from
the survey results.  Acknowledging the difficulty inherent in canvassing
church goers as to the needs/desires of non church goers, the group felt a
new worship service would nonetheless require a strong nucleus of support
that could be counted on to get a new worship service off the ground.  This
did not seem to emerge from the survey.

The following recommendations resulted from our discussions at the meeting:

1.  Move the start time of the early Sanctuary service from 8:30a to 8:45a.
Conclude by 9:45a.   Communion in the chapel (1st Sunday of every month)
would be at 9:45a.  Target date for the change would be October, allowing for
review of this recommendation by staff, COM, and 8:30 "regulars"
2.  Consider asking whole families, including children, to be greeters at
Sanctuary services.
3.  Consider youth as lay readers
4.  Cultivate additional discussion within the church about the future of
worship, particularly in light of the expanded opportunities the new facility
will afford us.  We believe there is a need to stimulate some dialog and
thinking "outside the box".  Dave and Elizabeth will work on a Cornerstone
article to begin this process.

While the survey results did not point the way with laser-like certainty,
each time I read the comments and suggestions it provokes a new thought.  I
hope it does the same for you.

Thanks for your time and thoughtful input to this process.  It is truly
appreciated.

Respectfully,
Dave Lank
