Eleanor

Here are several ways to get to Ken Garfield's article plus I have copied it below.

My main  Smugmug page for Ownbey has his writeup as well as the link to the original on the main Church web site.   Since I have the writeup on our smugmug, we will still have when it goes away from the main church page..

Look at it  at
http://donredding.smugmug.com/gallery/4339789_BLSuD

or direct to it  if still on the church page at

or below is a copy

Sunday's Muffins Served With Warmth

I’ve figured out how to fill Sunday School classrooms everywhere.
Just have Ann Copeland make enough of her plum mini-muffins for everyone. That would drive the faithful back to Bible study quicker than you can say, “May I have another?”
I sampled her delicacies as the Ownbey Sunday School class held an open house to celebrate 56 years of fellowship and study, and to recruit some new blood. There is nothing wrong with the wisdom that comes with age. But, as the class agrees, welcoming a few folks who haven’t turned 70 yet might add a fresh voice to the conversation.
Ann’s delicacies were only part of the recipe of affection served up Sunday by the 40 or so folks who have spent the best part of their lives in the Ownbey class. Durward Owen reminisced about Christmas caroling years ago. Chick Thompson, who helped organize Sunday’s open house, talked about the free-and-easy conversation unleashed each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. Ace Walker and Sydnor Thompson may do a lot of the teaching, but the members do most of the talking. The bulletin board filled with clippings and news of class members’ loved ones reflects the love and concern that has distinguished the class from the beginning. These good folks have grown up together, grieved together, celebrated together, searched for God together.
It’s not easy drawing people to Sunday School these days, no matter the denomination or the congregation. Folks are busy. Families are distracted. Getting the faithful to a worship service is accomplishment enough. Asking them to spend another hour in study is often a stretch.
One taste of those plum muffins – and the warmth they symbolize – can fix that. (Ken Garfield)

Don, is there any way to get a copy of Ken Garfield's column about Ann's muffin?  I'm so sorry I didn't print it to put on the bulletin board.  She was out of town and didn't see it  Thanks.

Hi Ownbey Open House Leaders

I worked on the pictures a little more and added videos with sound. The videos do not work on all computers I am sorry to say; let me know and I will try to help. They are arranged from shortest (22 seconds) to longest (4 and 1/2 minutes) so they are a little out of order. Quality is not the best as I was using my still digital camera for the video and they are of My Tube size  to save space. Good luck.

See videos at:
http://donredding.smugmug.com/gallery/4408874_a2CSJ/1

and the still photos are at
http://donredding.smugmug.com/gallery/4339789_BLSuD

Please feel free to add comments below the pictures. I will see before becoming public.

I failed to list Ace and John on first email and I used Chick's old address. Probably other "leaders" I should have included. I did send copies to Ken, Barbara, and Elaine. Again, thanks to all of you for  such a fun day.

Eleanor, yes, please  feel free to share the links with others as you want. Thank you.
