It is thought that the 2 brothers who went from Virginia to North Carolina were not immediately residing in Pasquotank Co. But later history shows us that Elizabeth City was originally called Redding. Then family thought that the name Elizabeth was after an Elizabeth Redding who ran a body house and tavern.. in this area. A great story to tell and after research many are is disappointed to find that the Elizabeth was not ours but that of an Elizabeth Tooley. I now will put information I received from a professor proving that this town was known as Redding for a time.

John informed me that another Redding cousin descended from Robert Reding has been researching the Redding Family for some time. She lives in Texas. Of f that branch from Robert it is said that a Redding cousin is who incorporated the city of Houston Texas. I have recently written to a lady in Edna Texas whom I believe this to be.
