50th Celebration : Chair Jim Hatfield reports email and
class surveys support Jubilee Hall on a Friday night. Other suggestions are to invite retired
ministers, previous members,
prospective members. Also, try to find some oldie pictures of
class, come prepared to sing some 50’s songs, etc. Continue to let Jim
have your ideas. We are pleased that our own Sydnor
Thompson will be our main speaker. Time tentative at

3) Most Valuable Member NameTags were given to Jane Pixley, Gary Grogan,
and Madelyn Standford. The question was raised again about the qualifications
for receiving the Most Valuable Nametags. As Don reported August 17, the
name tags go to “outstanding class members.” According to the
survey, all Ownbey members are OUTSTANDING.
4) Oooops in an earlier Reader I should have said the Maxwells were given their Most Valuable Member
Nametags on 09/07. On 09/07 they celebrated their 46th
Wedding. Anniversary. (I goofed up
and said it was the Chasons. Sorry.)
5) Elkins celebrated 56th
anniversary on 9/06! Congratulations.
Wow, I say they married at a minus 6 years old.
6) Soules celebrated 60th
anniversary 09/20! Wow, I
say they married at a minus 10 years old.

22) Class Membership Requirements were discussed 9/14.
¨
Don felt
our goal is to be a welcoming Christian Community. Any one who wants to be a
member of the Ownbey Sunday School Class may be. Members remain on the
roll– even if they seldom (or never) attend - unless they say they want
to be removed. Annually and often several times a year, data sheets are sent to
and received from all
members confirming their data information and desire to remain on
the roster. Some members who do not attend stay current with the class through
emails, postal mail, and the class web page. Some send Ownbey checks. At times
members who have not attended recently return as their life situation changes.
¨
A class member suggested having many members on the roll who
did not attend hurts our percentage of attendance ratio and affects the
allocation of space. Don indicated he did not think that was the case, but - remembering being
wrong about opening the windows on Hot
Sunday - will doublecheck with Barbara.
¨
In recent years there has been no Ownbey Sunday School
Class Membership Committee. Individual members performed this function.
