Hello Don,

Link to bus locations:

http://www.townofchapelhill.org/transit/special/tarheel_express.html

The Jones Ferry Park and Ride lot is located on Old Fayetteville Road

(the road that  runs behind Carrboro Plaza and Foodlion). Come from I85  on

Highway 86 to Carrboro plaza. If you were

to leave the Parking Lot behind Carrboro Plaza Shopping Center and

turn Left onto Old Fayetteville Road, go through the traffic light,

pass the entrance to University Lake on your right, then turn into the

Park-n-Ride Lot on your right.   The zip code for Jones Ferry is 27510..

Service begins 1 hour and thirty minutes before the game starts, and runs until 10

minutes before the start-up time of the game.

There is a 15-501 lot located at  the Southern Village Park & Ride lot located

on 15-501 south of town. The zip code for Southern Village is 27516.

If you need additional directions/instructions, please give us a call

at 968-2769, and our dispatchers will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for your time and attention,

                        C. Hinton

Hi Chapel Hill Transportation

I have been to your link at

http://www.townofchapelhill.org/transit/special/tarheel_express.html

but I still do not know where the Tar Heel Express Jones Ferry pick up

site is located.

I often used the Carrboro Plaza lot  but have been unable to figure

out where the  Jones Ferry pick up spot is.

What is the street address so I can search on Yahoo for directions? Or

maybe you could give me a link to a map you have on line.

Also what is the same info for " the Southern Village Park & Ride lot

located on

15-501 south of town."

thank you

C> Using the  Bus for Basketball games:

1>    Bowles info removed. If not using Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Room, suggest get to Bus no later than 45 minutes before game.

2>    Buy your Bus tickets when the ticket seller (finally) gets there. Usually there will be a line. Pay for round-trip tickets; no cheaper but a lot easier than trying to pay on way back. Cost is up from $3 to $5 (or more by 2005 ) round trip for 2001 , I learned recently. After you get ticket, there will be another line to get on the Bus.

3>    Notice sign on front of bus and remember the color and  what it says to help you find the right bus back after game. I assume the sign on the bus top front will say "Jones Ferry" or "Tarheel Express"

4>    When getting on bus give one ticket to bus driver and do not lose the return ticket. Confirm its color . If inclined, you could ask driver where they will pick up for return trip and when they start coming back. He will say look for sign and start back few minutes before game over, I think.

5>     You might have to stand on bus - just move as far back as possible and get close. Quick helps.

6>     When getting off the bus at Dean Dome., walk up steps. At top of steps you will see Dean Dome is on your right and a building is on your left. If you need to go to WILL CALL, look to your left of steps.

7>     The building on your left houses  the Ticket Office WILL CALL  (ticket office  should be easy to see) and the Swimming pool and the Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Hall/Room. (Will be harder to tell about swimming pool and Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Room). The building is called the Natatorium, but I never get spelling right.

8>     Go in main entrance of Dean Dome since you are not going to Bowles Room.  (Ignore: The entrance to the pool and Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility room is on the right side of the building housing the ticket office.)

9>     Go in main entrance of Dean Dome since you are not going to Bowles Room. (Ignore:If going to Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Room, enter first set of doors (I think) you see on the right side of the building)

10>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room)Go downstairs and at the bottom of steps to the left is the Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Room. To right are rest  rooms if needed. Also to the right is the way you will go to game after leaving the Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Room.

11>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room) On the left, show the attendant at the door to Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Room/Hall the two Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Hall passes; keep the passes (and later get them back to me)

12>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room) Sometime the food is snacks and sometimes much heavier offerings depending on time of game. See other letter re what is served for your  game. Depends on time the game starts.

13>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room) The room opens one hour before game time and closes 15 minutes before the game. It also opens after game but I suggest you skip that if you want to catch the bus back!

14>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room) Make your self at home. (No seats, rather very few seats, just stand and move around.)

15>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room) To go to game (Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Hall lights will dim when closing), go out the same door you came into the Bowles/Peebles Practice Facility Hall and walk straight (past the men's room on your left) , give the game tickets to the ticket taker and walk out (almost) on the court!  I think this is a neat feeling. The place is big as you look around.

16>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room)You are now on the court and need to get up to the upper section behind you. You are looking for section 217.

17>     (Ignore this if not going to Bowles Room) So just walk up to the back of the lower section then look for your section in upper section and walk up stairs to seat.

17a> After entering Dean Dome Main entraqnce, find your seats. Probaly to your left after you come in and will be upper seats. Look for section number.

18>    Busses start leaving a few minutes before game is over but no need to worry about getting a bus if wait till game over. Just be out the door as soon as you can when game is over if staying to end.

19>    I find one can get on the bus and be moving faster if one starts leaving the game with no less than a minute or so to go. Leave the seats and go downstairs the ten  or so steps near your seats and turn left. You will want to exit around the doors in front of Section 220 and 221 and on your right as you walk out.

20>    When leaving your seats, go down steps and you will turn left and and go a while and then to right out the main doors (tho there are many doors out). You can walk (and stop if game is close) and continue watching game from the back of the lower section seats as you move toward the door. (There are several doors but these directions should get you going the right way). When out side, go down steps and find your bus sign/color.

21>     Look for your bus and it should be close to where it let you off. Other buses usually are further away. There will be a flashing light the color of your ticket (light blue I think for Carrboro Plaza). "Jones Ferry"   should be on the sign and  "Jones Ferry"  or maybe "Tarheel Express" or both on the bus you need. There will be lots of buses and several for Jones Ferry. Will be lots of people in a hurry.

22>    If you have moved quickly the line should be short; if you moved slowly, started too late, or got lost, the line will be long and you will have to wait through several bus fillings. Note: There will be many lines for many busses to your and other locations; be sure you are in the right line. Sometimes the sign is a long distance from your spot in line so be sure you are in correct line.

23>    Have ticket ready and give to person as you get on bus. If you have to stand, move to the back. Sometimes there is room but people do not realize they should move on back and get close together to help load faster and to get more people on faster.

24> If things went smoothly getting out and on the bus, you will be in a pretty good traffic situation. There will be traffic but most of it is still behind you.

25>    Good Luck.
