A)     Articles of Religion
  • Article 19—Of Both Kinds  The cup of the Lord is not to be denied to the lay people; for both the parts of the Lord's Supper, by Christ's ordinance  and commandment, ought to be administered to all Christians alike. 
  • The 25  Articles of Religion  were written by John Wesley for the Discipline  of 1808.  According to Mark Edwards recently, "you cannot be a Methodist without believing them all.” Some disagree, do you?

B)     Half time for the Ownbey Season and who is in the top 25?

  • For the class, member attendance averaged 41 for the first 6 months compared with 34.4  last year and 37 for the previous 6 years. For 2003, after the bump with the excitement of the new building, our averages have dropped as follows Jan 34, Feb 47, Mar 46, April 46, May 41, June 37

1)      July 06 9:45 a.m. Sunday School  in Jubilee Hall with Rev. James .

2)      Last week Sydnor Elkin received  Outstanding Service Award for his years of service to the class  as he lead our Room in the Inn efforts. Others mentioned as helping include Grace Elkin, Reatha Andrew, Anne and Jack Copeland, Marilea  and Bob Grogan,  Willard Gourley, Mel and Cristina Halpern, Joe Hamrick, Jim Hatfield, Janie Jones, Wilma Miller, Nhora Moreno, Oscar Moreno, Durward and Connie Owen, Bill and Marie Pearce, Ginny and Wes Soule, Madeline Stanford, Joyce Witherington, and others? Please add to the list if you remember

3)      Last  week Willard Gourley received Outstanding Teacher Award

4)      Oscar Moreno, new member, correct email is, catire36@msn.com. Visitors last week: Karen Funderburk

5)      Last week the class noted the outstanding music in the services and thanked Harold Clark and Dottie Tobias. Reception for two ministers at noon.

6)      Thanks to Chason’s for hosting 7/4 party Friday night.

7)      Last week the Class approved paying for the chicken and drinks for the 7/4 party out of the Class Treasury. The Class then approved that “the President and Treasurer may approve expenditures for the class up to $100 for reasonable purposes in the event the expenditures are not covered by other policies. Unless covered in other policies, amounts over $100 require class approval.” This action in effect formalizes procedures used in the past, and the approved procedure will be added to the Handbook which is under construction.

8)      Last week we reported H & H: Charles M. (Chip) Billings (Carol Needy's son) was taken to Presbyterian hospital with a brain aneurysm. Steve James visited  Friday before surgery. Reports are that Chip is progressing well. Twala Kruger’s mother passed away (not unexpectedly) during the week. Twala’s address is 1036 Bobolink Lane CLT – 28226. Randy wanting to come home from Brian Center, (5939 Reddman Road, 28212, Room 311); they thank you for the cards and prayers. Paul Guthery and Mel Halpern missed class with a cold, etc.

9)      Last week two of our members taught Sunday School classes –Chick Thompson and Sydnor Thompson (Wesley).

10)  Last week Outstanding Member Name Tags to Syd and Grace Elkin, Harold Clark, and Len Chason this week and  to Skip and Ruth last week.

11)  Bobcat Tickets. Interested in splitting tickets with Don?.

12)  Attendance – First half ended 6/29.

6)       Today first for Dr. James Howell. Preaching 3 services. Last week Mel said Dr. Howell now on MPUMC web page and asking for email addresses as he plans to send  several a week. http://www.mpumc.org. 7)       Social: Signup for 7/4 party @ Chason’s, 33 so far. Bring chairs, if you can.
